The ground rules

Two rules apply to everything below. Oggy will never use cloud storage, so what a family creates stays on their device. And one-tap mode stays the default; anything more advanced is opt-in.

Each phase ships on its own, in the order listed. There are no promised dates. Oggy is built by one person, and features ship when they're ready.

Phase 1 · Up nextBackup & Restore

Export your boards, buttons, photos, and settings into a single backup file, saved wherever you like: the Files app, AirDrop, or a USB drive. Restoring that file brings it all back, photos included.

  • One file holds your whole setup, with versioning built in so old backups keep working with future app updates.
  • It also works as a device-to-device transfer. Setting up a new tablet takes a minute.
  • No cloud, no account. The file goes only where you put it.

This ships first on purpose. It protects the hours families put into their boards before any later feature touches the underlying data.

Phase 2 · PlannedSentence Builder

A settings toggle that switches from tap-to-speak to sentence building. With it on, tapping a button adds its word to a sentence strip above the grid instead of speaking right away.

  • Phrase buttons add their full text in one go, so “I want” plus “juice” reads the way you'd expect.
  • Strip controls: speak the whole sentence, remove the last word, or clear.
  • A half-built sentence survives an app restart.
  • One-tap mode stays the default. Sentence Builder is strictly opt-in.

Phase 3 · PlannedCore-Word Starter Board

A pre-loaded board of high-frequency core words (I, want, more, go, not, you) so Sentence Builder is useful from the first minute.

  • Button positions are fixed. Consistent placement builds motor memory, which is the same reason established AAC systems keep core words anchored.
  • Boards stay fully yours: organize by topic, by part of speech, or however your communicator thinks. The starter board is a starting point, not a rule.

Phase 4 · PlannedWord Prediction

This is the long-term goal: vocabulary that adapts to how each person communicates. As sentences get built, Oggy learns which words tend to follow which, and starts to help.

  • Next-word suggestions based on the communicator's own history.
  • Surfacing the right board mid-sentence, before you go looking for it.
  • Grammar support for verb tenses and plurals is being explored.

All of this learning happens on the device. No sentence, word, or pattern ever leaves the phone, the same promise Oggy makes everywhere else.

Why this order

Backup comes first because it protects your data before anything else changes. Sentence Builder comes before the core-word board because the board is only useful once there's a sentence strip to build with. Prediction comes last because it learns from the sentences people build in Phase 2.
